Double Standard- A Naked Truth

I saw a video in YouTube about a 17 years old girl in Guwahati, being molested on a road, and stripped in public by 20 so-called "men". Just 5 minutes later I saw a picture on my Facebook timeline of a chick posing naked, for PlayBoy. She just shared the pic on facebook "to let us all know".

While I completely support the idea of nudity at will, I refuse to succumb to subservience to a society that says that if a woman's appearance inspires a man's erection, he can simply do as he pleases. I am sorry, being a woman, not only do I support a woman's right to dress and behave as will, as long as she isn't harming anyone, I also support a man's behaviour to do the same.

However, what I know for a fact, that today's Guwahati incident is going to cause a big huge hooplah about pubs, skirts, lage nights and women drinking alcohol. Pubs will be bad mouthed, the poor 17 year old is going to be persecuted for "dressing provocatively", drinking and being out at night. Parents will stop daughters from going out, and the goons who were not even man enough to respect a woman will roam free.

Yes, the double standard lives! Men can roam around however they want, while women have to cover themselves up EVEN IF THEY DON'T WANT TO! Despite that, women will always be prey to the perverted mind of sick men!

Why such a double standard? Why does a rape mean that the woman was not careful enough, rather than the guy being wrong? Why should women be careful, rather than men being more well-behaved?

Sexuality is human. Men and women both have sexual needs, arousals, desires and a need for sexual satisfaction! Nontheless, sex is rape if not consensual! Men, women are not for you to molest at will! Women, you have the right to say no, and take action against those who force nonetheless!

Our society needs to learn healthy, moral, ethical and human ways to achieve sexual stimulation, satisfaction and understanding. It is truly a warped world!

Completely agree. Well covered..

You wrote "While I completely support the idea of nudity at will". I just want to comment on this statement and nothing more.

I take the liberty of assuminbg you to be a muslim going just by your name & nothing else. when Quran stresses on women to dress modestly and cover their bodies & keep their gaze down do you think you must go to the extent of publicly expressing such thoughts that go totally against the word of Allah? Do you think me & you know more than allah as to what's good or bad for us humans.

Mr.Khurram.. all girls who are raped are not muslims.. does it give males the right to rape them ??? and by the way in name of Allah please tell me which Allah or God gives the right to males to molest or rape a female.. and remember women in a veil is also raped.. please here we are not talking of religion just about respecting a human... be it a male or female.. so stop judging some body's religious beliefs based on their comments or their clothes and posting such views..

T@$NEEM:
It appears that you didn't read/understand my comment. Please do read again. My comment was only on Blogger's cheap mindset that brought out this statemenmt "While I completely support the idea of nudity at will". It surprised me how a woman can stoop to such low level and even think of writing such a stupid line.

I never said that Rape of dressed/underdressed or veiled/non-veiled women is justified.
I firmly believe that Rapist should be stoned to death.

she says she supports meaning.. each person has a right to choose how to dress.. does not mean she is doing it or that she has to like it.... each to his own.. so understand the article fully - that is why i say again - please keep religion out of it

Dear Mr. Khurram,
whoever you might be, let me tell you something about religion. Religion was created as a social guideline structure, not a rulebook. I do not believe in religion but i do believe in God therefore i can tell you that religion was never willed by any God to be followed slavishly. To assume that the author is cheap just because she is liberal and follows a live and let live policy is rather foolish. Do stop being reactionary and consider the concept of free will. People can do what they like so long as no harm comes to another person.
Allah is God, wise and benevolent, so were all the saints of Islam. Do YOU proclaim to know what HIS will is? Neither you nor the greatest Mullah or religious teacher has even the slightest clue as to what God really wants. He knows His own game and He plays it Himself, by His own rules. Not by the rules of our churlish and narrow-minded understanding.
Good day to you.

well said, rashida.....but at the same time, it is high time that women start learning self defense because every time something like this happens, no matter how forward we claim to be in our thoughts and actions, we always step back in the hour of need due to fear and that I believe is our biggest enemy, something even worse than the actions of people who take sadistic pleasure in degrading women. We women must learn to defend ourselves. That is all it takes to stop a molestation, rape or an assault.

arey why making a hooapla out of a thought of an individual...he or she has her own thoughts and freedom to express it in his/her own way...moreover one should read the disclaimer that the writer has put...so why poke a nose...it is her individual thought and i respect that she has the guts to convey her thoughts unlike others...who live in this hypocrite world being one themselves...and as far a Islam is considered, waise no point in bringing religion in anybody's thought process...but to everyone Islam always preaches equality among men and women...so if men have the audacity to molest a girl in public which is utterly disgusting and shameful...women like this writer has full right of sharing their opinion...if we want women to be discreet about letting their opinions known...we men should first stop behaving like animals..i rest my case here.
